City officials say they will establish a formal policy to be sure that trees are protected from harm in any city construction project. The administration of Mayor Dwight C. Jones also intends to review the mayor’s goal of planting 2,000 trees in public spaces this year to ensure that enough money is budgeted to water and care for the young trees.

Trees – Richmond needs volunteers to care for trees

Filed under: Trees — cwaynetaylor @ 1:05 am

City of Richmond, Virginia

Richmond is relying on volunteers to help keep trees alive in public spaces during a summer of record heat and deepening drought.

With about 15 employees to maintain, remove and plant trees on public property citywide, the Division of Urban Forestry needs all the help from residents it can get through programs such as Adopt-A-Tree, in which homeowners commit to the care of newly planted trees next to their homes.  timesdispatch.com
